When Almeria played Villarreal last weekend, they certainly didn’t imagine that would be Unai Emery’s last game in charge of the Yellow Submarine this season.

The coach ended up engaging in fast negotiations with Aston Villa this week, and following the agreement to take charge of the Premier League side, his exit obviously became a big thing in the Spanish media.

So today, as Almeria manager Rubi held a press conference, he was quizzed about Emery’s move to Aston Villa, and he was quite honest when speaking of the manager’s decision to leave the La Liga side.

“Players and coaches are commodities. When someone gets involved a thousand percent and that is not valued, it means that sometimes you have to have a cool mind and make the decisions that you consider appropriate,” Rubi told local journalists (via Diario De Almeria).

“There are clauses in the contracts and there are also fulfilling the contracts. The same thing you want to be in a place, you lose three games and you are no longer there. Even if you don’t want to, we are commodities. But I am not going to change, I will always give a thousand per cent wherever I am and defending to the death the shield. From Espanyol I went to Betis with a contract. I left my home  because I understood that there were situations that did not correspond to what we deserved. The coach is not always the bad guy”.

Following the agreement between Emery and Aston Villa, the manager didn’t even stay in charge of the Spanish club for the Conference League clash against Haopel Beer Sheva on Thursday.

As the coaches prepare to fully take charge of the Villans, he’s set to miss the weekend’s match against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday, and set to make his debut when playing Manchester United at Villa Park on the 6th of November.
