Could Dimitar Berbatov finally be getting his dream move to Newcastle United?
The former Tottenham, Manchester United and Fulham striker, currently without a club, is being reported as being very close to signing with Rafa Benitez’s side, according to Gong in Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian website report the player has travelled to Newcastle, where he is currently ‘finalising the negotiations’ of a contract with the Championship side.
Berbatov, now 36, left PAOK Thessaloniki last summer after spending a year with the Greek side where he scored five goals in 25 appearances.
Gong state that Benitez was keen to bring in a new striker this January transfer window, and he could have found his man in the Bulgarian striker, whose idolising of Alan Shearer has already been well reported in the British press.
With reports from Sky Sports that Dimitar Berbatov is on his way to London, it seems the player could be set for a return to English football, but who will it be with?
It seems the player has been offering himself around of late, desperate to play football again, and with a few clubs short of a striker, they could do a lot worse for the next four months or so.
