Liverpool are ‘far from giving up’ in the race for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku, despite fierce competition from elsewhere.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say that Jurgen Klopp and co will continue to pursue the Frenchman despite ‘lagging behind’ others in the race.
Nkunku can leave Leipzig next summer for a €60m fee, a figure that all the big clubs in Europe are interested in given his performances in the last few years.
The forward managed 35 goals and 20 assists in 52 games in all competitions for Leipzig last season and has started this campaign in similarly good form, with six goals and one assist in 11 games to his name so far.
Reports today have since put Chelsea at the front of the queue for his signature, with it stated they have an agreement in principle and have even had the player undergo a medical.
A deal is far from done, though, and journalist Fabrice Hawkins stated that ‘Liverpool are there too’ when covering the news today.
Fussball Transfers back that up, stating that other big names in Europe are ‘still hoping’ to sign Nkunku and Liverpool are one of them.
They are ‘far from giving up’ the battle for him, but there is an admission that they are behind their Premier League rivals at this moment in time.
Perhaps they will now step up their efforts after the Blues pushed ahead, with Nkunku very much hot property because of his release clause activating next summer.
