Bologna coach Roberto Donadoni has spoken to the Italian media with regards to the admiration he still holds for the Cagliari fans. The AC Milan legend was the coach of the Serie A side a few seasons ago, but left after a fall out with owner Massimo Cellino.
Speaking to Sky Italia after yesterday’s game between Bologna and Cagliari, Donadoni thanked the fans of the Sardinian club for giving him a warm welcome. Despite being sacked by Cellino in 2011 Donadoni revealed the Cagliari fans have remained in his heart, and so has Sardinia.
“I want to thank the people of Cagliari for the reception. In Sardinia, I find myself very well, the people of Cagliari have remained in my heart,” said the former Italy international.
Donadoni was surprisingly sacked by Cellino just two weeks before the start of the 2011/12 season following claims the Cagliari coach didn’t want his star striker Alessandro Matri to be sold.
Cellino earned himself the nickname the ‘Manager Eater’ whilst in Italy and has continued to live up to this since purchasing Leeds United in 2014. Cellino has gone through several managers since arriving in England, but it seems he’s made the right choice with Garry Monk.
Under the former Swansea City boss Leeds United have a good chance getting promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
