PSV Eindhoven could not and should not reject a €60m offer from Manchester United for Cody Gakpo this summer.
That’s according to former Dutch footballers Willy and René van de Kerkhof, who say they will personally drive the player to Old Trafford themselves for that figure.
Gakpo has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United over the last fortnight, with Erik ten Hag keen to spend big at the end of the window to strengthen his squad.
The focus appears to be on the Netherlands, with Ajax’s Antony and PSV’s Gakpo both believed to be on his wish list and talks underway to sign both players in big money deals.
The interest in Gakpo has been welcomed by PSV fans and journalists alike, with both admitting they would happily sell the player for the sums being mentioned.
That’s a surprising stance given he is currently PSV’s key player and the undisputed star in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s squad, so his departure would leave a huge hole to be filled.
His stock has fallen, though, after a disappointing performance in the Champions League qualifier with Rangers and the Van de Kerkhof brothers would now be happy to see him go.
“He is clearly not ready for the European top,” they told their podcast for Omroep Brabant.
“If we get another €60m for him now we’ll take him there ourselves. In a foam box so nothing can happen on the way.
“He’s just not ready yet so I wonder if any clubs will fall for it. Although, in England they have so much money…”
