Mainz defender Moussa Niakhate is on the verge of completing a move to Nottingham Forest, with a medical planned for tonight or tomorrow.
That’s according to BILD, who say the defender will sign with the Premier League side once his medical is completed in the next 48 hours.
They report that Niakhate ‘verbally agreed’ a deal with Nottingham Forest this morning on the final details of his potential contract with Steve Cooper’s side.
He has already signed this contract, while the agreement between Nottingham Forest and Mainz has also been finalised.
With the deal ‘fixed in writing’, the German club have now given Niakhate permission to travel to England for his medical.
Indeed, things are now so advanced that BILD report that both clubs could ‘officially announce’ the transfer tomorrow.
The move represents a ‘good deal’ for Niakhate, who has a year left on his deal, so needed to be sold or sign a new contract this summer.
Nottingham Forest initially offered €6m to sign the defender, but that was considered far too little, and after several rounds of negotiations, Mainz will now receive the €15m they had asked for.
That will be comprised of €10m directly plus €5m in performance-related add-ons, which are seen as easily attainable by the Bundesliga side.
