Gabriel Jesus’ move from Manchester City to Arsenal this summer has been covered repeatedly in the Brazilian media. Once the transfer was done, there was even a bunch of stories covering what to expect from the striker in London, as he fights for prominence ahead of the Qatar World Cup.
However, despite the excitement from many outlets, we now see Band presenter Neto, one of the most influential hosts in the country’s football media, mocking the move.
He claims Gabriel Jesus is moving to a ‘small club’, putting Arsenal side to side with a non-league club in Brazil, and saying the player may now miss his chance to win a place at the World Cup. The pundit compares the new Gunners signing to Gabigol, claiming the Flamengo star has been showing a lot more in recent years.
“I saw that Gabriel Jesus went to Arsenal. Small club. Small club. Portuguesa Santista are bigger than Arsenal. Arsenal have won what in the last five years?,” asked Neto.

“Then Gabriel Jesus, who broke through at Palmeiras, five years at Manchester City, two years without scoring for the Brazilian national team, do you think he deserves to go to the World Cup? Or Gabigol? Who is good at ball? Who’s been scoring a lot of goals for five years?”
Gabriel Jesus had a negative time with the national team, after failing to score at the 2018 World Cup, and that was repeated at the 2021 Copa America. He’s still been called up by manager Tite, though, and a fresh start at Arsenal could help him guarantee his place in Qatar this year.
Neto clearly isn’t an Arsenal fan.
