It’s no secret that the future of Leeds United star Raphinha currently lies between Barcelona and Chelsea, since those are the two strongest clubs in the race for his signing.
It’s been mentioned a few times, however, that Arsenal had been keen on the winger as well, and could join the battle to land him.
But today, as Goal Brasil features an update on this race, they claim the Gunners are ‘currently out of contention’ for Raphinha.
It’s said Arsenal had been the first club to show interest in signing him, but, since Chelsea’s offer, ‘haven’t even talked to the player’s staff’.
The outlet points out the Gunners have smaller financial power than their London rivals, especially because of their lack of Champions League football this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side reportedly tried to get to a deal with Leeds before the transfer window, but failed to do so.
The most interesting claim here is that Arsenal reportedly ‘don’t rule out’ getting back into the race for the signing, due to the ‘wear’ in his negotiations with Barcelona in Chelsea.
Still, for now, the Gunners appear to be underdogs.
