Earlier on Friday, Corriere dello Sport reported AC Milan have joined AS Roma in the chase for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.
It was also stated the Rossoneri’s priority target is Lille’s Renato Sanches, but they are forced to look at other options since Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in him.
The Serie A winners will need a new midfielder after seeing Franck Kessié leave them as a free agent. The San Siro club keeping tabs on Steven Gerrard’s man is backed up by Milan Live.
It’s said the Italian club’s leaders have identified the Villa player as a ‘luxury alternative’, if they fail to sign Sanches. Milan are of the belief they can take Luiz away from the Premier League side this summer since his contract expires in 2023.
The outlet make it clear both Sanches and Luiz have different characteristics, but that has not stopped Stefano Pioli’s side from viewing the Brazilian as a back up to the ex-Bayern man.
Milan have ‘already contacted’ the former Manchester City man’s agent and this could be the first hint of the possibility of him ending up at the San Siro. The South American earns €3m per year and his salary will ‘not be a problem’ for Milan.
Aston Villa value Luiz at €25m, but the Italian champions will try to lower the fee, by using the duration left on his contract to their advantage. Milan could perhaps include bonuses or a percentage of a future sale.
Luiz is a ‘concrete track’ for Milan, even if Sanches continues to be their priority target.
