Newcastle United have ‘sniffed out’ a potential deal for French youngster Alan Virginius, who is being ‘hotly courted’ this summer.
That’s according to Le10 Sport, who say the striker’s performances for France’s U19 side have caught the eye of several clubs in Europe.
He is one of several players to have shown their potential with three goals and three assists to his name, and now clubs are ‘rushing to sign him’ this summer.
That’s because he only has one year left on his current deal, making him an achievable target for those who are interested, including Newcastle.
Current club Sochaux have already received a €7m offer for the striker, a figure which is not far from the €7-10m figure that they are looking for.
Who made this bid isn’t made clear, just that three clubs have positioned themselves for a possible deal. There is also interest elsewhere, with Brugges and Bayer Leverkusen also in the picture.
Then there is Newcastle, who have ‘sniffed out the starlet’ and want to ‘join the battle’ for his signature this summer.
Le10 say that the whole thing should be come clearer in the coming days, especially if new offers arrive and are close to the €10m that Sochaux are looking for.
