Leeds United are continuing their efforts to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven and ‘trying to lure’ him into a move to Elland Road.
That’s according to Eindhovens Dagblad, who say Jesse Marsch’s side ‘perseveres’ with the charm offensive on the forward.
Gakpo is expected to leave PSV this summer after impressing for them last season, with a host of clubs in Europe interested in his signature.
Leeds are one of them, having recently joined the hunt as they look for a replacement for Raphinha should he leave as expected.
Several reports have made their interest clear, although it’s also been stated that they’ll have to convince Gakpo, who had set his sights a little higher.
It seems they’ve managed to convince the player to listen to them at least, with ED reporting that the player will hear their case ‘in the coming days’.
They make it clear the transfer is ‘not yet in question’, but Leeds are pushing as they see the player as the perfect replacement for Raphinha.
Their plan is to sell the Brazilian for a large fee, around €65m, and then put ‘a large part’ of that into PSV’s bank account for Gakpo.
They’re ‘charmed’ by the player and believe they can reach an agreement with his club, who are currently demanding €40m and don’t particularly want to sell.
Money talks, however, and should they strike a deal, Leeds ‘hope to entice’ Gakpo to Elland Road despite interest from bigger clubs.
Their chances, though, rest on those bigger clubs not making a move.
Even then, Leeds will ‘have to do everything in their power’ to convince the player, but they’re going to give it their best shot regardless.
