Monday’s edition of Sabah reports Aston Villa’s Trezeguet is getting closer to signing for Trabzonspor.
The Turkish club have been one of several keen on the 27-year-old, who has a contract with the Premier League club until June 2023. He spent last season on loan at İstanbul Başakşehir, and is not expected to return to the country on a longer term basis.
Sabah report Aston Villa and Trabzonspor have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ for the player’s transfer. That will see the Premier League club receive a transfer fee of around €3.5m, likely less than Villa will have originally asked for.
Given Trezeguet’s contract has less than a year left, and there’s no role for him with Steven Gerrard, it may have been considered the amount was better than nothing.
The player’s agents are now set to travel to Istanbul for talks on his personal terms agreement, and there’s confidence an agreement can be reached.
Sabah suggest Trezeguet will be offered around €2.2m a year in Turkey, including bonuses, and there’s a ‘high probability’ of a deal being done.
