West Ham United have ‘taken information’ on Bordeaux striker Hwang Ui-jo as clubs line up to take him from the French side on the cheap.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the Hammers are one of several sides eyeing up the 29-year-old.
Hwang Ui-jo was in fine form for Bordeaux this past season, with 11 goals and two assists in 32 games in Ligue 1, earning him plenty of admirers.
Those interested parties, including West Ham, are now lining up to try and get him on the cheap after Bordeaux were relegated.
That’s left them looking to sell to balance the books and sort out their finances, and Hwang Ui-jo is one of those who could go.
He’s seen as a ‘sudden opportunity’ according to Calciomercato, who say Nantes have already made an offer and Marseille have ‘taken action’ in the last few days after making an offer a year ago.
Schalke and West Ham have also ‘taken information’ on the player, who is free to choose his next club as he is available for a ‘bargain’ price.
What that figure would be isn’t mentioned, but the likes of Transfermarkt currently value him around €7m, so it would presumably be lower than that figure.
Now, we would take this report with a healthy pinch of salt for now as it’s an Italian report on a France-based player, and while there have been reports about Hwang Ui-jo in the French media, West Ham are yet to be mentioned there.
Perhaps they have only just appeared on the radar or flown under it, but we’ll wait for more reports before believing he’s on his way to the London Stadium.
