Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has admitted he intends to shine at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
The Argentine goalkeeper has established himself as the undisputed number one over the last two years with a series of impressive performances for his country in international tournaments.
He will be key to Argentina’s hopes of going far in the World Cup in Qatar later this year; a tournament which he and his teammates will arrive at in good form and with growing confidence.
It will be the first intercontinental tournament that the Aston Villa number one will have played in for his country, having so far only tasted Copa America action.
That tournament saw him pulling off a series of impressive displays in the run-up to the final win over Brazil, with him keeping four clean sheets against Uruguay, Paraguay, Ecuador and then Brazil in the final.
He’ll be keen to repeat the trick in Qatar and admits his aim, other than winning the tournament, is to be named the best goalkeeper there.
“If I want to win things with the national team, I have to set my sights high,” the Aston Villa goalkeeper told D-Sports Radio de Doble Amarilla, relayed by AS.
“I don’t even go out for a coffee with friends. I’m obsessed with my job. I want to be at my best to reach the World Cup.
“In these months, I’m going to achieve it; I want to be the best goalkeeper in the World Cup.”
