On September 24th as Arsenal beat Chelsea 3-0, Antonio Conte wasn’t in his finest hour. Since then, things have changed hugely, and it’s now Chelsea who are clear favourites to win the Premier League.

Tottenham and Liverpool are both on 45 points, 7 behind the leaders, and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal are a further point back in fourth place.

The eight point gap isn’t making Olivier Giroud pessimistic, and in an interview with Gazzetta’s Extra Time supplement, the Arsenal striker made it clear what the club’s aim for the season is.

“Our goal is to win the championship. The race is not finished. We beat Chelsea in the first leg and there is still time to recover.

“We are still in January. The finish line is far away. I believe that the Premier is still open.”

“In football there are no impossible challenges. The success of Leicester last season, and the same happened to Portugal at the Euros, demonstrates that the most important thing in our sport is to believe in your own ability.”

Questioned on whether he’d ever had contact with an Italian club, Giroud was polite but didn’t give any hints of interest in a move: “It was never so serious, I have great respect for your football.”
