Barcelona are yet to receive an ‘official proposal’ from Arsenal for Memphis Depay, despite the Gunners apparent interest in him.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Catalan giants are aware of the interest from Mikel Arteta’s side this summer.
Arsenal are keen to improve their forward line in this window, having allowed Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to depart in January and Alexandre Lacazette’s contract to expire.
With Eddie Nketiah also yet to sign a new deal, there is a distinct lack of forward options in the squad, and several reports have indicated that signing a striker is their priority this summer.
Arteta reportedly wants to add an experienced forward to his younger squad, and Depay has been named as one of the options they are looking at.
He looks likely to be shipped out of the Nou Camp as part of Barcelona’s overhaul this summer, with the club keen to get numerous players out so they can reduce the wage bill and raise funds to make the signings Xavi wants.
Depay is one of those reportedly on the list of those who can depart, but it seems Arsenal are yet to make their move for him.
According to Sport, Barcelona have not received an ‘official proposal’ from the Emirates, despite it having been made clear that Arsenal are showing an interest.
The window to sell Depay is limited to this summer as he only has a contract until 2023, so could negotiate a free transfer for next summer from January onwards.
Barcelona would prefer to avoid that happening, and while the Dutchman is valued at around €40m, they would demand a ‘far lesser amount’ to make a deal happen this year.
