Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout this summer and are ready to ‘shower him with gold’.
That’s according to Calciomercato and Area Napoli, who both cover a possible move to St James’ Park today.
They explain that Veretout is set to leave the Italian side this summer, and the player has several suitors, including Marseille, who have recently started ‘pressing’.
However, they face competition from Newcastle, with CM reporting that they have been ‘monitoring’ the midfielder ‘for some time’.
This is backed up by Area Napoli, who say the midfielder could move to the Premier League, and there are ‘incoming sirens’ from England.
Newcastle, in particular, are keen and ‘courting’ him as they plan for a busy summer window and ‘may soon make an official offer’ to convince the player into a move to the North East.
CM report that Roma are asking for €15m for the midfielder, who is also likely to demand a salary around €4.5m per year, which he had asked for at Roma last year, but they were unwilling to pay it, hence him departing this year.
Whether Newcastle are willing to pay either figure isn’t made clear, but both would be a drop in the ocean given the Magpies’ new financial wealth.
Either way, they’re keen and so keep an eye on him moving forwards, with a departure from Rome now presented as definitely happening.
