Leeds United are keen on Real Zaragoza striker Iván Azón and are ‘monitoring’ his development this season.
That’s according to Heraldo, who say Leeds like the player’s profile and have underlined his name ‘in red’ for the future.
The newspaper explains that the young striker, who has six goals and one assist in 34 games this season, is one of the young talents that Leeds are following in Europe.
They began scouting Azón during his time as a Zaragoza youth player when he played in the team under Iván Martínez two seasons ago.
He’s since enjoyed his breakthrough into the first team and consolidated himself there, enjoying the ‘expected goal-scoring awakening’ this season, something which has ‘boosted the interest’ at Leeds.
They’re, of course, led by Victor Orta, who was born in Madrid and has thus set up an ‘extensive structure of Spanish scouts’ at Elland Road, giving them a ‘special emphasis’ on monitoring the First and Second Division.
That’s seen them pick up on Azón, who they believe has an ‘ideal profile for English football’ thanks to his powerful and strong physique, aggressiveness in attacks and power in the air.
Those, coupled with his other abilities, mean Leeds think English football would be an ‘appropriate ecosystem’ for him to ‘exploit’ his talents. Thus, they are ‘underlining in red’ his name in their book.
The striker’s future at Real Zaragoza is ‘shrouded in uncertainty’ as the club had intended to renew his deal before the change in ownership.
There has been no negotiation process with the player, or his teammates, on that front since the club changed hands, though, as the focus is currently on hiring a new management team.
That’s left the club ‘paralyzed’ in terms of planning for the squad, something Leeds could take advantage of.
