Manchester United’s struggles in all competitions this season could be partly blamed on their failure to invest in a new midfielder last summer.
The Red Devils will have to strengthen the same position in the upcoming window, with Nemanja Matić confirming his exit from the club and with Paul Pogba likely to leave Old Trafford as a free agent after this season.
Manchester United have announced Ajax boss Erik ten Hag will be their new manager from next season. Even before making this deal official, the Premier League side were linked with a handful of Ajax players.
Ryan Gravenberch is among them and is still named as a target for the English club, even though various reports have talked about Bayern Munich being his likely destination.
The report adds the 19-year-old ‘could be headed’ to United, where he would replace Pogba. Ten Hag would have ‘convinced’ the player to join him at Old Trafford next season.
Gravenberch picked up an injury and is expected to miss the remainder of this season. De Telegraaf state that if Ajax and Bayern were to reach an agreement, then the midfielder would have already played his last game for the Amsterdam club.
De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij was a guest on Christian Falk’s podcast, where the former stressed the Bundesliga winners are still not ready to meet Ajax’s demands.
Bayern offered €16m plus €7m in bonuses, while Ajax are demanding €30m to part ways with their player.
