Unless you were hibernating throughout the January transfer window, you’ll be aware that Arsenal were interested in signing Arthur.
Mikel Arteta wanted a new midfielder for his Gunners squad, and while various talks took place with Juventus for the Brazilian, an agreement was never found.
That’s because Arsenal wanted the player on a short-term loan, which the Italians would only accept if there was a purchase clause attached to it.
Otherwise, they were looking for something longer, perhaps for 18 months, which the London side weren’t interested in.
In the end, Arsenal didn’t get the midfielder they wanted, having to make do with their current squad until the end of the season.
Still, that doesn’t mean they’ve given up hope of signing the Brazil international, as TuttoMercatoWeb look at his situation.
They recall he was ‘already close to saying goodbye to Turin in January’, and ‘among the main suspects’ remain Arsenal, who ‘have not stopped following him’.
One of the certainties is that Arthur has no intention of losing his spot in Brazil’s national team ahead of the upcoming World Cup and ‘he wants a starting position that Max Allegri’s Juventus cannot guarantee him today’.
