It was back in November that West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna had a cruciate ligament injury which forced him to be sidelined for a few months.
Since every knee issue is always concerning, it was at first expected that the 33-year-old would be out for the rest of the season, only finishing his recovery by August this year.
However, interviewed by Sky Sport Italy today, Ogbonna brought good news about his injury, pointing out that he could be back in action for West Ham in a few months.
“The recovery is going very well, I’m fine, we’re in line with the rehabilitation process, and therefore I hope that before the end of the season I can still give my mark,” Ogbonna told Sky Sport (via Gianluca Di Marzio).
Ogbonna also talked about West Ham’s clash against Lyon in the Europa League tonight, pointing he’s confident that his teammates will manage to get a positive result before their trip to France.
“I’m optimistic: we can face Lyon without fear, also thanks to the push of the fans and the enthusiasm given by the victory in the league. We’re favourites, and we’d like to win: but we know that Lyon must be respected, they are a team with great potential that could play in the Champions League.”
With the Hammers working to go far in the European competition this season, perhaps Ogbonna is still hopeful he’ll have a chance to play there once he gets recovered.
