Romelu Lukaku could end up staying in London this summer and simply ‘change neighbourhood’ and swap Chelsea for another club in the city.
That’s according to former footballer turned analyst Frederic Gounongbe, who thinks a certain manager’s presence in north London could open up a move.
Lukaku has struggled since moving back to Chelsea in a £100m+ plus move last summer after two very impressive seasons at Inter Milan.
After a strong start, he has quickly fallen away, struggling to adapt to life under Thomas Tuchel and finding himself sitting on the bench more often than not as Kai Havertz impresses as Chelsea’s number nine.
It means the Belgian star is likely to seek another move this summer, with many believing it is simply not destined to work at Stamford Bridge.
A return to Inter Milan is what the player wants, but that may be difficult given their financial situation, and so other suitors will have to be found.
Tottenham have surprisingly been named among the options because of their manager, who re-energised the striker during their time together at Inter.
And Gounongbe believes that their relationship could facilitate a move this summer, even if it would be a difficult deal to get done.
“For Lukaku, it will be either at Chelsea, with a change of system or coach; he still has five years of contract,” he told RTL.
“Or stay in London, but change neighbourhood and go to Tottenham.
“There is a certain Antonio Conte, and Kane should leave, so a place will become available, even if it will be complicated between these two clubs.”
