Ronald Araujo’s contract situation at Barcelona has been a big topic in the Spanish media this week. Since his deal with the Catalan side expires in 2023, the club don’t want to enter the summer window in a fragile position, and are working to give him an extension before that.
The talks, however, haven’t been easy, as the player hasn’t been convinced of signing a new deal yet.
Now as this situation develops, we get to see outlet Super Deporte claiming Ronald Araujo is ‘close to Manchester City’.
The outlet explains that the talks for a new contract with Barcelona are now ‘complicated’, as the club are not willing to match his requests.
Then it’s claimed that Manchester City want to take the chance and sign Araujo to play alongside Ruben Dias, making ‘one of the world’s most imposing pairs of centre-backs’.
According to Super Deporte, Barcelona have it ‘clear’ that if the defender doesn’t sign a new deal, then they’ll sell him this summer, as they don’t want to risk losing him for free next year. And with the deal now seeming difficult, Pep Guardiola’s side seem to be the solution for this case.
It’s worth pointing out it’s not common to see Super Deporte breaking news from Barcelona, as those stories are normally more reliable when coming from Catalan outlets such as Sport and Mundo Deportivo.
Still, Super Deporte belong to Prensa Iberica group, the same company who owns Sport. So perhaps that’s a reason why they deserve some credit in this story.
