Chelsea will need at least €60m if they wish to sign Jules Koundé from Sevilla this summer, but the Spanish club may be forced into a sale regardless.
That’s according to GOAL’s Spanish edition, who pick up on reports about Sevilla’s need for sales and add in the details around that.
Yesterday we covered a report from Sport that explained Sevilla are ‘doomed to sell’ their stars this summer to cover up holes in their budget.
Koundé is undoubtedly their prized asset, and thus the most saleable, with Chelsea’s interest in him last summer brought forward once again.
It’s believed they’ll be back in for him this year, particularly as they look set to lose Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta in one fell swoop.
Koundé is a player they obviously like and one who could fill the gap, and GOAL now say it will take €60m to get him.
They back up Sport’s claims that Sevilla need ‘big sales’ this summer and say their ‘disappointing run’ in Europe has left them with a mess to clear up their accounts before June 30th.
They had budgeted for €83.3m thanks to being in the Champions League, but their poor performance in that, and the Europa League, has left them with just €46m to play with.
The overall figure is unlikely to go above €50m, so there is a deficit of €30m that will need to be filled, most likely with player sales, so they can avoid posting accounts with losses.
Koundé is the ‘best option’ for a sale, and the Nervión club would need to sell him, or another player, for a capital gain as close to €42m as they can muster.
That does not mean Chelsea can get him on the cheap, though. As GOAL explains, Koundé was bought for €25m and €15m of that has already been paid, leaving €10m to amortise, meaning Sevilla need at least €52m to obtain the profit they need.
However, around 20% of any sale is due to Girondins de Bordeaux, which means Sevilla have to budget for that, pushing Koundé’s asking price to €60m.
In other words, if Chelsea thought they could take advantage of Sevilla, they may be wrong. While the Spanish club need to sell, they also need a certain figure, and unless that is matched, the Blues may end up as frustrated as they did last year.
