Ever since Newcastle United were taken over by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, they have been linked with Ousmane Dembélé.
That’s because the forward is out of contract in the summer, and despite their dire league situation at the time, the Magpies tried their best to convince him to choose them as his next club.
Claim of a €15m/year in wages and €15m signing on fee offer being made circulated back in October, which was put forward by Foot Mercato, and the same outlet believe Newcastle are still keen on the winger.
However, his situation at Barcelona has since changed, and while he still hasn’t renewed, he’s much happier.
The arrival of his good friend Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears to have a lot to do with it, and it’s now believed the La Liga side ‘haven’t said their last word’ when it comes to keeping the Frenchman.
That doesn’t mean other clubs aren’t still interested, because Foot Mercato make it clear the likes of Newcastle are still ‘lying in wait’ when it comes to Dembélé, perhaps simply biding their time and seeing where they end up in the Premier League before coming back for another attempt.
Money isn’t going to be an option for the St James’ Park club if they stay up, so perhaps that €15m + €15m offer could even increase if they desperately want to sign him.
