Manchester City are one of several sides in the picture to sign AS Monaco youngster Mamadou Coulibaly. This was first reported by Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday and then backed by Milan News.

The midfielder’s current deal expires in June and his suitors can take him away from the Ligue 1 side by paying them a training allowance.

AC Milan have long been looking at the 17-year-old and Milan News explains the potential opportunity to sign him is ‘teasing’ them.

The possibility to take Coulibaly for a ‘low-cost’ deal ‘appeals’ to the Serie A side’s leaders. However, it will not be easy as they are ‘destined to face competition’ from Manchester City, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur.

Another Italian outlet, Calciomercato, also mentions the Premier League champions and Milan interest in the Paris-born youngster.

It’s claimed Milan’s contacts to sign him are ‘advanced’ and their chiefs, Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara, have presented their ‘ambitious project’ to the player.

He is pleased and is aware his adaption would be easier at the San Siro as there are multiple French speaking players at the club.

Under their current owners, Milan have showed they ‘want to focus’ on youngsters. This, however, is not thought to be the case with the Citizens, who have already ‘moved’ to try and burn the competition. This factor can give the San Siro club an advantage over City in the race to sign Coulibaly.

At the moment, the teenager has not yet made a decision on his future and has not ruled out the option to continue at Monaco. Coulibaly will make a final decision when he turns 18 next month.
