Robert Lewandowski scored an early hat-trick for Bayern Munich as they beat Red Bull Salzburg 7-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
The result was as impressive for the German club as it was embarrassing for the Austrians, and the Poland international was clearly the star of the show.
Bild have an article on Wednesday morning which presents a little doubt about the player’s future, and brings Manchester United into the picture as a potential destination.
Ralf Rangnick’s side are said to have registered their interest, and made it known they ‘would like to make the first offer’ should Lewandowski decide to leave the Bundesliga club.
The 33-year-old’s contract expires in June 2023, and it’s not entirely clear whether Bild are insinuating Manchester United would be interested in signing the player when he could be a free agent, or in the coming summer window.
Lewandowski himself is said to be ‘surprised’ that nobody from Bayern Munich has been in touch about a renewal. That could be what all this is about, with Manchester United used as a big club, in need of improvement, who could potentially be a threat.
