Over the past week or so, we have seen an increased number of articles from Portugal claiming that Manchester United are taking an active interest in Joao Palhinha.
The defensive midfielder is the type of player many members of the Old Trafford faithful have been screaming for, and it appears the Red Devils are considering making a move for him.
This comes courtesy of Record, who add some details as they relay reports from the English press, making it clear that Manchester United are ‘attentive’ to the Portugal international, whom Sporting CP had already ‘agreed to sell’ in January ‘for more than €30m’.
No one came forward at that time, but that is expected to change in the summer, with O Jogo on Monday also adding their bit to the mix, claiming Palhinha ‘should leave’ once the season ends ‘for between €30-40m’.
That’s an affordable fee for a club of Manchester United’s stature, who will likely spend a fair chunk of money to bolster their squad in the upcoming transfer window.
A lot will, of course, depend on who ends up replacing Ralf Rangnick as manager, but if they are already looking at Palhinha, it might not even matter.
