Portuguese side Sporting obviously have big reasons to be motivated for Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Manchester City.
Now it turns out that a particular situation is today highlighted by the Lisbon media, and that’s Pedro Porro’s wish to prove himself to Pep Guardiola.
The fullback was bought by Manchester City in a deal from Girona back in 2019, and was never used by the club. First loaned to Real Valladolid and then Sporting in the summer of 2020, he’s expected to be soon bought by the Lions, who’ll trigger an €8.5m clause.
His permanent move is no news, as a personal agreement between him and the Lisbon side has been reported for months. The hot topic now is that he’ll finally have the chance of showing his skills in front of Manchester City.
Writing about the situation, newspaper Record brings a strong paragraph summing it up.
“Sporting’s motivation for the game against City is at the top, but for Porro, this Champions League tie is even more special. Linked to the Blues of Manchester for three seasons, the 22-year-old winger has never had the chance to do a single training session under Guardiola’s orders and, tomorrow, he is keen to show his compatriot that he should have deserved that opportunity.”
Newspaper A Bola writes about the situation as well. They say Porro will now have the chance of ‘introducing himself to Guardiola’.
They recall that after his ‘immediate impact’ at Sporting, the fullback has been wanted by the likes of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
As soon as he signs his new deal with the Lions, he’s set to be protected by a release clause worth €45m.
