Manchester United have ‘positioned themselves best’ to sign Boubacar Kamara from Marseille but are facing competition from around Europe.
That’s according to MARCA, who say Atlético Madrid have already seen a bid rejected for the highly-rated Frenchman.
The newspaper explains that Atlético chief Andrea Berta contacted his counterpart Pablo Longoria about signing the young player, who is available on a fee in the summer.
He has ‘many suitors’, one of them Manchester United, who have been linked with a move for the midfielder for months. Indeed, L’Equipe reported today that he was being ‘watched by big European teams, including Bayern and Manchester United’.
Longoria rejected the proposal as his idea is to pocket around €10m from any potential sale this month, although he is handicapped by the fact the player’s contract expires in the summer.
That has led the club to try and get rid of him this month so they can avoid losing him for nothing in June.
It is the Premier League that is ‘well placed’ to secure his signature at that point, and there are several sides ‘keeping an eye’ on him.
It’s felt England is his ‘most likely destination’, particularly Old Trafford, with Manchester United the ‘best positioned’ to secure his signature for next season.
Atlético are trying to get ahead of the competition, though, and it remains to be seen if their efforts force United to move sooner than they’d planned.
