Newcastle United and Sevilla are ‘still far apart’ in their valuation of Diego Carlos as the Magpies push to sign the Brazilian.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say that Newcastle’s various offers so far ‘do not reach’ what Sevilla have been asking for.
Eddie Howe is keen to add a centre back to his squad this month, with that position having been a problem one for Newcastle for some time.
Carlos is the man they want, but Sevilla are reluctant to sell a key player midway through the campaign and have resisted all of their efforts so far.
Estadio explain that after signing Anthony Martial and Tecatito Corona, Sevilla chief Monchi will have to try to retain Carlos or ‘put pressure on Newcastle’ to reach the figure he wants for the centre back.
So far, he and Sevilla have maintained their initial position on the matter, that it will take an ‘off-market offer’ for them to accept a transfer.
Despite constant reports from England that such an offer is going to arrive, the truth is that no such a bid has been made, even though the player’s representatives have been in Seville to try and negotiate his exit.
The fact is the two clubs remain ‘far apart’, which has made Newcastle question whether they want to raise their offer or move away and target someone else.
While those reports in England are blaming Sevilla, Estadio argue that the Spanish club have been ‘very clear’ about the situation and the price they want to let Carlos leave.
Rather than offering an acceptable amount, Newcastle first reached an agreement with the player, believing that Sevilla would ‘give in sooner or later’.
That never happened, and Sevilla ‘are not willing’ to let the defender leave, even less so for the price that has been offered by Newcastle so far.
In fact, for them, keeping Carlos and signing both Tecatito and Martial would be the cherry on top of this transfer window, and as far as the newspaper is concerned, any anger from the North East should be focused on those in charge at St James’, not the Sanchez Pizjuan.
