Antonio Conte could leave Tottenham in a year’s time and make a return to Italy and Serie A with AC Milan.
That’s according to former Italy striker Antonio Cassano, who believes that Conte could be tempted by the ‘complicated’ challenge at the San Siro.
The Italian coach is currently working to get Tottenham back competing for Champions League football, having been convinced to join the club after Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking.
He had initially rejected Tottenham in the summer but admitted he was convinced by the project presented to him when Daniel Levy and co came calling the second time.
They offered assurances to the manager regarding their plans for the club, which would presumably have involved assurances over moves in the transfer market.
Tottenham are yet to make a move this month, though, and Conte has been growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of movement, making it clear that he needs new players sooner rather than later.
That frustration has led to suggestions Conte could walk away from the club over the lack of support, having established himself as a manager who wants money spent to build the squad he needs.
His current deal only runs until June next year, and Cassano says “I have this feeling” the manager might not go beyond that point and instead return to his homeland.
“Tottenham? Conte is doing a great job. Kane is doing a different sport,” FC Inter 1908 report him saying.
“He signed for a year and a half. They’ve done almost nothing in the market now; he usually picks teams to try and win like he did with Juve and Inter.
“Can Conte return to Italy? I’m making a film myself. He won with Juve, he won with Inter. It occurred to me: I’m convinced that not now, but July 2023, I don’t know why, I don’t know anything, I see him at AC Milan.
“It’s my idea. It’s been going around in my head for some time. He likes complicated challenges, Pioli is doing an exceptional job, but he’ll take that extra step if he wins the Scudetto this year or next year.
“I’ll say it: in July 2023, I see Conte at AC Milan. Sooner or later, these Milan owners will have to make a gamble.”
