Romelu Lukaku surprised everyone on Thursday when he told Sky Italia he is not happy with his situation at Chelsea, months after the west London club invested in excess of €100m to secure his services.
Sky released only a part of the interview yesterday and have released more comments from the striker today, where he discusses how he snubbed an opportunity to join Manchester City.
The 28-year-old joined Inter Milan from Manchester United in 2019 and during his two-year spell at the San Siro, he helped the Nerazzurri win the title, which also brought an end to Juventus’ dominance in Italy.
And it appears that Lukaku’s debut season form in Italy convinced Pep Guardiola’s side to make an approach for him.
“After the first year, I turned down an offer from Manchester City that was higher than Chelsea’s current one, because I didn’t want to,” he told Sky, as relayed by FcInterNews.
“It was not the time, it was the first year, I wanted to do something good for Inter because they saved my career. I was in a tunnel at Manchester United. I was a big investment for Inter and we did great things together.”
