Liverpool are reportedly interested in Benfica goalkeeper André Ferreira.

The 20 year old is still to debut for the first team, but is a frequent starter in Benfica’s B team, where he already has 19 appearances this season.

According to A Bola, the Reds have been watching him often and see him as a good prospect for the future.

Ferreira is currently Benfica’s fourth goalkeeper, and was spotted doing the warm up with Ederson and Paulo Lopes before Thursday night’s game, even though he wasn’t part of the squad.

The player is well protected with a contract until 2021, and with Benfica being Benfica, we reckon it would be unlikely to see them letting the youngster go easily if they rate him. Liverpool would have to put in some financial effort.

CapturarBenfica have recently been linked to Manchester United’s 20 year old Joel Pereira, currently on loan at Belenenses.

One way to look at the situation is they may feel Pereira is better than Ferreira, and could be keen to make the change, with Pereira then joining Benfica’s senior squad next season.

That’s just speculation, of course. Jurgen Klopp has 23 year old Loris Karius and 28 year old Simon Mignolet, third choice is 39 year old Alex Manninger. Younger options are 20 year old Ryan Fulton and 23 year old Danny Ward, both currently out on loan.

It would be no surprise to see Mignolet leave in the summer if he’s not first choice, and Manninger’s contract expires in June.
