Scouts from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were all spotted at Belenense’s home league tie against Sporting last night. The visiting team achieved a 1-0 win as they try to get back on track for the title race.
Considering that two of the English clubs had loanees involved at the match, it isn’t hard to work out who were they watching.
Manchester United’s Joel Pereira did his best to keep a clean sheet. He just couldn’t stop Bas Dost’s effort after three minutes of injury time. But O Jogo claims that despite the many saves he did, Pereira seemed a bit “uneasy” with the ball on his feet.
Arsenal had to wait 57 minutes to see their loanee Joel Campbell get on the pitch, but it was worth the wait. He was responsible for changing the game, creating many chances and providing an assist for the winner.
It’s unclear who Chelsea were watching. They’re not frequent visitors in Portugal, even though the club were present at Benfica’s tie this week too.
The only Sporting player who was linked to Chelsea in the past year was William Carvalho, but well… he was linked to basically every Premier League club. He had a poor performance, by the way.
What the scouts probably couldn’t miss was Bas Dost’s form. He scored his 11th goal this season and keeps helping Sporting to win games week after week. Having signed for the club for only €10m last summer, it won’t take long until Premier League clubs start chasing him.
