With FC Porto top of the Portuguese League table, manager Sérgio Conceição is of course worried about losing important players in the January transfer window.
That’s why, according to Correio da Manhã, the coach has asked winger Luís Diaz to stay at least until the end of the season before he moves to a new league.
The newspaper points out that clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool are among those interested in signing the Colombian, but as he’s likely to agree to the manager’s request, the transfer should wait until the summer.
It’s said there’s only one way to sign Diaz in January, and that would be to trigger his release clause, which stands at €80m. Otherwise, Porto will keep him and expect the player to lead them to the title.
A Diaz move to Manchester United or Liverpool was a subject in the Colombian media at the weekend.
That happened in an interview which Gol Caracol conducted with Jaime Iván Moscote. The official used to be a market manager at the winger’s former club Junior Barranquilla at the time he played there, and is friends with the attacker’s agent, Carlos Van Strahalen.
When asked about Diaz’s future, Moscote claimed he’d like him to play for one of England’s biggest champions, saying the winger’s style suits the Premier League well.
“I’d love to see him in England because it’s fast football, which adapts to his characteristics and his favourite position, which is to play as a winger, on the outside, attacking and being fast,” Moscote told Gol Caracol.
“I imagine him at Liverpool or Manchester United. I think it would be something very good for him and for the league, for the style of one and the other.”
