Leeds United loanee Hélder Costa has admitted he arrived at Valencia from a ‘not so good situation’ at Elland Road.
The forward joined the Spanish side on loan at the end of the summer transfer window, with Leeds electing to let him go when they signed Dan James.
He endured something of a disastrous start to life in Spain, failing to establish himself in Jose Bordalas’ plans and earning plenty of criticism as a result.
That was followed by a dose of Covid chaos during the last international break, which threatened to turn his loan deal into a nightmare.
Instead, the opposite has happened, with the player working hard to get into Bordala’s plans and earn his place.
He’s now earning rave reviews for his performances, particularly the defensive effort that he is showing under his new manager.
That’s a weakness he knows he has to work on, and admits his slow start was due to the situation he was living at Leeds before his arrival.
“I feel better here, I came from a not so good situation,” Super Sport report him saying.
“But Valencia have given me the opportunity to relaunch my career and I think this is the ideal place to do that.
“I hope to be up to the challenge. I didn’t have continuity of games, but the coach has given me a chance and I want to make the most of it.
“I know I have to improve my weaknesses.”
