As you know, Lucas Torreira is currently on loan from Arsenal at Fiorentina in Serie A.
The Uruguayan midfielder was sent there as he didn’t fit in Mikel Arteta’s plans, and the decision to do so with a €15m option to buy suggested this could be his final year being contracted to the Emirates side.
However, before that happens, he needs to convince the Italian club that he’s worthy of their investment, and that’s exactly what he’s currently doing.
His recent good performance against Cagliari, helping his side walk away with three points from a 3-0 win, has gone a long way in doing so, and the recent injury to Erick Pulgar has opened up even more room for him.
That’s why Corriere dello Sport state the player is now Vincenzo Italiano’s current ‘number one choice’ in midfield, especially now that he is ‘starting to understand the game system and the movements the manager asks of him’.
The newspaper then remind their readers of the €15m option to buy, saying that him ‘becoming a key man’ could lead him ‘directly towards confirmation’, which is what’s happening.
One tip they have for him is that a few goals wouldn’t go amiss, and finding the back of the net certainly would help speed things up for him.
Either way, it seems that, for once, Torreira is doing all the right things to get away from Arsenal once and for all, putting behind him last year’s disappointing spell at Atlético Madrid in the process.
