Fresh from their takeover, it appears Newcastle United aren’t wasting time trying to stamp their mark on the transfer market.
While they’ve been linked with many players so far, few of the rumours appear to have stemmed from the Magpies making direct moves, until now.
According to Sport in Spain, the sporting direction at St James’ Park are ‘already working on a little investment’ in January.
Despite this, it’s made clear Newcastle ‘don’t want to rush and fall into all the offers they have received in recent days’, waiting until next summer to ‘make the big operations’.
For January, there are certain targets, however, who could be looked at, and ‘a name they like a lot is that of Clément Lenglet’.
The Barcelona defender has hardly featured under Ronald Koeman so far this season, totalling just 95 minutes of action in La Liga, meaning a move away could be something the Frenchman considers.
Sport claim, per their own information, that Lenglet ‘fits within the profile the English club are looking for, and have asked about him’.
The idea behind this is down to a number of factors, which are that he would ‘raise the level of the defence, is left-footed and his cost wouldn’t be too high taking into account the financial circumstances’ that surround Barcelona.
Despite not having a name to replace Steve Bruce yet, those in charge of transfers at Newcastle believe any manager coming in would be ‘interested’ of having a player like Lenglet in the squad from January onwards.
One to certainly keep an eye on.
