Liverpool striker Divock Origi is an option for Barcelona in January as they look to add a low-cost forward to their squad.

That’s according to Sport, who named the Belgian among the list of options that the Spanish giants are looking at.

They explain that Barcelona are concerned by their ‘alarming lack of firepower’ in the squad, particularly as Martin Braithwaite is currently injured.

That’s left Luuk de Jong leading the line and the Dutchman has struggled to adapt to life at the Nou Camp thus far.

They want to solve the issue by adding a striker in January but with money tight, they will have to be smart with their choices.

The plan then is to look at players whose contracts are expiring in 2022 and offer their clubs ‘small compensation’ to tempt them into deal. That option has several players in it and Liverpool’s Origi is one of them.

He’s considered an ‘interesting profile’ and ‘proven goalscorer’ who would provide an alternative to manager Ronald Koeman.

As an ‘eternal substitute’ at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp he’s not really had the chance to shine but Barcelona ‘know his abilities’ after his superb performance against them in that famous 4-0 win at Anfield.

Indeed, because of his status, Barcelona consider him one of the ‘easier options’ to get ahead of the likes of Raheem Sterling and Edinson Cavani.

Thus, he could be an option for them come January and create another Barcelona transfer that absolutely nobody would have seen coming.
