Angelino, formerly of Manchester City, has revealed how pleased he was with the recent reception he received from his former club’s fans.
The player enjoyed two spells with Manchester City between 2013 and this year, first joining as a youngster from Deportivo La Coruna in 2013.
He spent the next few years developing on various loan spells before moving to PSV Eindhoven in a permanent deal in 2018 for £4.95m.
That included the option for Manchester City to bring him back, something they elected to do the following year after a solid first season in the Eredivisie.
He was a part of Pep Guardiola’s squad for the next six months, regularly featuring under his compatriot but struggling considerably on several occasions.
That led to City shipping him out once again, this time to RB Leipzig, first on loan and then permanently this summer in a £16.2m deal.
Angelino recently returned as part of the Leipzig squad for their clash with City in the Champions League, a game that didn’t go well for him personally as his side were beaten 6-3, and he was sent off.
It’s a memory you’d think he’d rather forget but instead, it seems he was warmed by the reception he received.
“I was totally surprised that the whole stadium celebrated me when I had to leave the pitch in the game at Manchester City,” he told SportBILD.
“The fans were already cheering for me when I kicked a corner during the game.
“But the ten seconds after the yellow card were the best I’ve ever experienced with City. And it was my best moment so far this season.
“It sounds strange after a sending-off, but it was just a great gesture, and I was really pleased.”
