The biggest story in football on Saturday is almost certainly Cristiano Ronaldo having his second debut for Manchester United.
Facing Newcastle United at Old Trafford, the Portugal international will be keen to have a big impact right from the start, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer making it clear on Friday that Ronaldo is fit, will play some part, and is eager to get on the pitch.
Such is the star level of Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, that other big stars in football are routinely asked about the pair when they conduct interviews.
That’s the case of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, himself formerly of Manchester United, and a recent interview with France Football.
Ibrahimovic was asked what he lacks when it comes to comparisons with Ronaldo and Messi, and L’Equipe quote him as responding: “If you are talking about intrinsic qualities, I have nothing less than them. If you look at the trophies, yes I didn’t win the Champions League… But I don’t know how you calculate it. I’m not obsessed with it. Because when you do good things collectively, the individual follows. The individual cannot be good if the collective is not good.
Ibrahimovic left good memories at Manchester United, as he has at most of the clubs he’s played for. Now at AC Milan, the 39-year-old shows no signs of stopping, despite recently coming back from a serious knee injury.
