Leeds United defender Robin Koch has seen a call-up to the German national side cancelled courtesy of an ‘inflammation’ in his hip.
That’s according to Sport 1 chief reporter Florian Plettenburg, who says new Germany boss Hansi Flick wanted to include the Leeds man in his first set-up.
Koch ‘really wanted’ to travel too but had to pass up the opportunity to add to his eight caps because of inflammation in his hip.
The nature of the injury isn’t detailed too much, so we’ll have to wait and see if Marcelo Bielsa’s side provide an update on that front in the coming days.
We’ll have to assume it’s relatively bad, though, given it’s forced him out of the international break entirely.
Koch currently has eight caps for his country, with the first coming in a 2-2 draw against Argentina in 2019.
He’s featured more on the bench than in the first team of late, spending the entirety of his country’s Euro 2020 campaign watching from the sidelines.
That was under the previous regime, however, and this was his first chance of impressing Flick and establishing himself moving forwards. Instead, he’ll have to wait for his chance as injury scuppers the Leeds man’s plans once again.
