This weekend, Tottenham Hotspur were linked to São Paulo midfielder Igor Gomes.
The rumour started with journalist Ekrem Konur, who claimed that Spurs made an offer ‘of 12 million’ for the player. It wasn’t made clear which currency was being used, or the response to the bid.
Now as Brazilian outlets started looking for more information on this case, we get the denial from a couple of sources.
First came reporter Alexsander Vieira who spoke to an official from São Paulo and was told that Spurs haven’t made a move yet.
“No offer. Agents have been trying to negotiate him with Europe. It can happen”, said his source.
Then as journalist Jorge Nicola managed to speak to Igor Gomes’ agent, official Wagner Ribeiro also turned down the claims, saying there’s ‘absolutely nothing’ with Spurs so far.
Just like Vieira, Nicola adds that Ribeiro has been working in the market to get offers for Gomes this summer.
The agent confirmed that West Ham made a bid already, but since that was for a loan deal, it was turned down by the player and his club.
