For a while now, Napoli have been linked with a move for Sander Berge.
The Sheffield United star is seen as the ideal man to bolster Luciano Spalletti’s midfield in the south of Italy, and the recent injury to Diego Demme has only increased their need for a player of his ilk.
The problem, however, is that the Blades, now managed by Slavisa Jokanovic, have slapped a €15m asking price on Berge, which Napoli aren’t prepared to pay.
That’s according to Calciomercato in Italy, who state that Cristiano Giuntoli ‘insists’ on the Sheffield United player who is ‘ready to start his first season in the Championship’.
The problem here is that ‘for the moment, the Italian proposal is a loan with a view to buy, while, on the other hand, the British are asking for the sale outright, in exchange of €15m’.
The two parties are ‘distant’ at the moment, but ‘Giuntoli continues to work’ on the file, all the while keeping tabs on alternatives, named as Denis Zakaria, Tiemoué Bakayoko and even Bordeaux’s Toma Basic.
