Over the past week claims emerged that Manchester City were set to sign Barcelona youngster Nico Gonzalez.
Just 14 years of age, Nico would normally be restricted by rules banning the movement of youngsters outside of their country. It’s the same situation which saw Barcelona receive a transfer ban, so they’re very aware of the situation.
The difference for Nico is that his father Fran, the Deportivo La Coruna legend, is a coach at Manchester City and therefore the transfer would be framed around the family reuniting.
Barcelona have clearly heard the claims, and held at summit at La Masia on Saturday about the youngster’s future. Fran was called in to give his insight on the claims and tell Barcelona what’s going on.
However, Catalan newspaper Sport say Fran revealed that he was surprised as anyone else about the claims, and rubbished the idea of an agreement to join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Fran explained that the family are happy with Nico in Barcelona, and want to close down the rumours.
Sport have some proof for the meeting, their photographer snapping Fran at the club’s offices on Saturday.
