Leeds United striker Rafa Mújica has ‘found his place’ at Las Palmas after his disappointing loan spell at Real Oviedo earlier this season.
That’s according to La Nueva España, who cover the player’s situation today and why his time at Oviedo proved to be such a disaster.
They explain that the ‘main reason’ Mújica joined Oviedo on loan from Leeds in the summer was for technical reasons, with it having been explained coach Cuco Ziganda’s favourite system was 4-4-2 or, in any case, 4-2-3-1.
That, according to Francesc Arnau, Oviedo’s sports director, meant that the club would fit Mújica’s qualities ‘like a glove’.
That, however, didn’t happen, as there was no place for Mújica and him asking the club to end his loan deal come January after just four appearances in the league and 52 minutes of action.
They consented and Mújica was ‘showered’ with offers from the second division but he was determined to stay in La Liga and eventually got his wish when Las Palmas came calling.
‘Time has proved him right’ in that regard, with the Leeds man establishing himself as a regular and finding his place under Pepe Mel.
He’s ‘established himself as a good striker to have in the chamber’ at the club, and while he’s not ‘indisputable,’ he does contribute when called upon.
Those that know the player now talk of his ‘happiness’ after disappointing loan spells elsewhere, which the player detailed in a recent conversation with COPE.
Now, there’s no mention of whether they’ll look for a permanent move in the summer but even if they don’t, this is all good news for Leeds long-term.
Even if they don’t want him, having Mújica confident and in-form is far better than the demotivated player that he was before his move to Las Palmas.
