Earlier this month, Voetbal International reported Leeds United failed in their efforts to sign Feyenoord’s Orkun Kökcü in the winter market.
The 20-year-old signed a new deal in January and his contract runs until June 2025. Despite the renewal, the player opened the door to leaving the Eredivisie side in the next market.
“I still have a contract until 2025, but the situation has changed. Feyenoord have been very open about the financial situation, and it is clear that the club is ending up in the minus,” he said.
“If a club comes to me with a good story and Feyenoord can make money from it, I can imagine that I will listen to it.”
Sevilla are included in the suitors list for the midfielder, if Sport’s report on Thursday is to be believed.
The ‘competition to get his contract will be tough’ for Sevilla as Marcelo Bielsa’s side have the player on their agenda. It’s claimed Leeds have ‘set their sights’ on Kökcü and also have the ‘necessary cash’ to complete his signing.
Sport cites claims made in the Dutch press that Feyenoord would to let the midfielder leave for close to €20m.
Monchi is ‘willing to risk’ that amount for Kökcü, but he will have to overcome the ‘tough competition’ from Leeds.
