There’s a special reason for Sporting to keep an eye on how well Bruno Fernandes is doing at Manchester United, and that’s the performance bonuses involved in his transfer.
Even though it’s been over a year since the Red Devils spent €55m on the move, the Lions can still see many millions going their way in case he succeeds further at Old Trafford.
As now highlighted by newspaper A Bola, the current clause being watched is the one which covers Fernandes being chosen the best player in the Premier League.
The outlet takes the claims from the British press which say the midfielder is one of the candidates for this prize, and now wait and see if that will benefit Sporting ‘right away’.
A Bola recalls that an extra €25m was agreed in performance bonuses. That’s €15m for individual goals and another €10m for club objectives.
Manchester United have already paid Sporting €5m for the number of appearances Bruno made for the club, which were easily reached. Now there’d be €5m in case he’s the best in the Premier League, and another €5m if he’s a Ballon D’Or finalist.
The other bonuses look a little harder at this stage, as €5m depends on the Premier League title and another €5m on the Champions League trophy.
Since joining the Red Devils in January 2020, Bruno Fernandes has 35 goals and 21 assists in 63 appearances. He’s still to win a trophy for the club.
