Manchester City defender Philippe Sandler has insisted he does not regret joining the club, despite a difficult time at the Etihad so far.
Sandler completed a move to City from PEC Zwolle back in 2018 as Manchester City scooped up another youngster with a view to the future.
He has only made eight appearances in total for the club since then, though, with two coming for the first team and six in the Under 23s.
That has been as a result of continued injury issues, with the defender suffering serious injuries to his knees and ankles that have left him sat on the sidelines for months at a time.
All in all, the move has been something of a disaster, but he insists he does not regret his choice in the slightest.
“I have a positive and happy life that helps me enormously. But I would be lying if I said it didn’t hurt me,” he told NOS.
“If you are in the gym every day, you really crave competitions. But unfortunately, it is all part of it.
“The only thing you can do is work really hard. Fortunately, I am back on the field again, and it goes slowly. in the right direction”.
While focusing on getting back to full fitness, Sandler will also have an eye on his future at the Etihad.
His deal with Manchester City expires in 2022, meaning he has one final year to make an impact at the club and prove he is worthy of an extension.
First things first, he will have to recover from his latest long-term injury, with his last game coming more than a year ago while on loan with Anderlecht.
That means any talks of his future would be foolish at this point, something he was keen to emphasise.
“First (I need to) get fit and play matches,” he added.
“Then, it is also a bit easier for myself to determine what I want. I still have some time, and I am certainly not working on it now.
“The focus is on recovery, then the rest by itself”.
